Rene Toups is the Senior Field HSE Supervisor for Exploration Projects at Repsol. With over 27,000 employees across more than 40 countries, Repsol is among the leading integrated energy companies in the world.
Rene’s responsibility is leading Repsol’s HSE team on Alaska’s North Slope which includes on-site HSE reps, site security, and medical teams. Repsol has been working with Beacon for four years and is extremely satisfied with the quality and consistency of Beacon’s service.
“There has never been a problem or issue, when I reached out to Beacon, that wasn’t handled in an extremely timely manner,” said Toups. “Knowing I can trust someone when my back is against the wall is extremely important. We often have folks needing to get trained and certified with little or no notice and Beacon never fails to accommodate our needs.”
When asked about his experience working with other medical and occupational vendors, Toups said, “One season we went with a competitor and the service was poor. That is a mistake I will never make again.”
Repsol utilizes Beacon for all of its remote medical, safety, training, and clinical services. During drilling season, Repsol employs five remote Beacon clinics with medics and physician assistants plus one Beacon HSE representative for each drill site.
“All of our North Slope training is run through Beacon in either Beacon training centers or on-site at our offices in Houston, Texas,” said Toups. “Beacon is a true ‘one-stop shop’ to ensure all of our needs in the field are met. The two big drivers for me are trust and convenience. Anytime I need anything I either pick up the phone or send a quick email and it is immediately handled.”
When an injured drill site manager needed assistance, Toups was impressed by the level of service that Beacon provided: “We had a situation where Beacon went above and beyond in assisting us with an injured drill site manager from Alabama. He was picked up at the Anchorage airport. Arrangements were made for all of his accommodations and meals, and he was escorted to each of his doctor appointments while recovering.”
Beacon provides professional safety consultation to help Repsol meet project requirements. “They cater to our specific needs and provide me with a pre-qualified, pre-screened list of candidates with the experience I am looking for,” said Toups.
When asked if he plans to continue using Beacon, Toups responded,”As long as I am involved with Repsol’s operations in the North Slope of Alaska then Beacon will be part of our team.”
