During her 13-year tenure at Beacon, Amanda has left her mark on every aspect of the organization, from strategic focus as a CEO to a hands-on approach in overseeing the implementation of new software systems, service lines, and the recent renovation of Beacon’s new 25,000 square feet headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska. As a leader, Amanda places great emphasis on human factors, believing that playing a leading role in the community and always having an open door are essential for good business.
Amanda joined Beacon after 14 years of working in Indiana’s managed care and hospital environment. The move to Alaska and the unique challenges of supporting clinical operations in remote arctic conditions and high-risk work areas presented an inspiring adventure and learning opportunity. She credits her determination to move outside her comfort zone as a key factor in her personal and professional growth.
When asked about her leadership style, Amanda emphasizes the importance of leading by example, embodying ‘servant-leadership’ qualities, and working alongside her team as often as possible. She also acknowledges the influence of family, friends, coaches, teachers, and professional mentors in shaping her approach to leadership, which revolves around faith, passion, optimism, determination, resilience, and integrity.
Looking towards the future, Amanda is focused on the growing importance of mental health and wellness programs in the workplace, stating that “employees who are mentally and emotionally well are more productive, engaged, and resilient.” She also highlights Beacon’s commitment to implementing new technologies to improve access to services and care solutions, enhancing employee, client, and patient experiences. As a Company of International SOS, Beacon aims to expand its market reach in Alaska by remaining focused on core services and clients, fostering inclusive and collaborative work environments and partnerships.
Amanda recalls Beacon’s response to the global pandemic in 2020 as a prime example of the company’s agility and ability to pivot in times of crisis. By proactively preparing clients for the COVID-19 pandemic and playing a crucial role in keeping the critical infrastructure of Alaska safe, Beacon has demonstrated its commitment to its clients and community. Amanda believes the lessons learned and accomplishments achieved during the last three years will continue to set Beacon apart and guide them into the future.
