Patient Services
At Beacon we pride ourselves on providing excellent care for our patients. When you visit any of our conveniently located clinics you’ll quickly learn what “rock star customer service” is all about!
To prepare for your visit, please review the section below that corresponds to the tests you will be taking. This will provide you with information regarding what to expect and how to prepare. If you have a specific question don’t hesitate to contact us via email or by telephone (907) 222-7612.
Drug & Alcohol Testing
Be prepared to provide a urine sample. Drink some water (but not too much) before arriving for your test. This will reduce your wait time and ensure that you can quickly and easily produce a sufficient sample.
Estimated Wait Time: 15 – 30 minutes*
Estimated Test Duration: 5 minutes
Bring a valid photo ID. A government-issued ID is required for DOT drug testing.
*Your actual wait time may vary.
NOTE: All Beacon drug and alcohol testing locations are walk-in only.
Occupational Health Testing
Each component takes approximately 15 minutes to perform. For example, if you need to have an audiogram, physical, and mask fit test performed, expect to spend a minimum of one hour at Beacon (including wait time and completing forms). There is no need to fast for any labs prior to arriving at Beacon (unless otherwise instructed by your employer or Beacon staff).
Mask Fit Test
If you’re being fitted for a mask, make sure any facial hair is clean shaven or trimmed, otherwise the mask can’t be properly fitted.
Failure to comply with the facial hair requirements will result in an incomplete mask fit test and the company that requested the test will be notified. You may be asked for shave or trim your facial hair to meet the required specifications during your test at the Beacon facility. Razors are available during these circumstances.
Functional Capacity Exam (FCE)
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Avoid skirts, dresses, tight-fitting clothing, heels, and heavy boots. Wearing these types of items may impact your ability to perform and could negatively impact your results.
Estimated Wait Time: 15 – 30 minutes*
Estimated Test Duration: 15 – 60 minutes**
*Your actual wait time may vary.
**Duration will vary depending on the type of exam.
Fit for Duty
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. We recommend gym clothes, such as sweats or shorts and tennis shoes.
Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks, soda, etc) and nicotine prior to your appointment as both can adversely affect your heart rate.
What to bring with you:
If you’ve had any surgery within the last year, bring a copy of your medical release from your doctor stating that there are no restrictions for you to work.
Please arrive 15 minutes early as there is quite a lot of paperwork to complete.
Fit for Duty exams are available by appointment only. No walk-ins are accepted. Your exam will be conducted one-on-one with a physical therapist and therefore must be scheduled.
NOTE: If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, your company will be notified that the test must be rescheduled. Scheduling is done directly with the referring company, not with the individual.
Estimated Wait Time: N/A
Estimated Test Duration: 1 – 1.5 hours
